Obituary for Margaret "Midge" May
Margaret “Midge” May, 93 of 119 Chestnut Lane, Mt. Carmel passed away on Wednesday morning, November 21, 2018 at home.
Born in Philadelphia on June 23, 1925 she was a daughter of the late John and Julia (Smith) McAndrew.
She attended the former St. Ignatius grade school and was a graduate of the former Hubert Eicher High School both of Centralia.
On August 23, 1952 in the former St. Ignatius Church, Centralia she married John J. “Sop” May who preceded her in death on November 26, 2010.
Midge was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish, the Council of Catholic Women of the parish, the Centralia American Legion Auxiliary Post 608, Wilburton and the International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union (ILGWU). She was an avid Philadelphia Phillies fan and enjoyed cooking for her family. Midge was also a former Centralia Borough tax collector.
Surviving are her daughter Deborah May Gownley and her husband Ted of Mt. Carmel; two sons, John “Jack” May and his wife Marilyn of Reading and Richard “Rick” May and his wife Anne of Lititz; six grandchildren, Anthony May, Julia Ferry, Marissa May, Mary Gownley, Jonathan May and Joseph Gownley; five great-grandchildren, Anthony May, Abe May, Hugo Ferry, Luca Morar and Aria Morar; cousins, nieces, nephews and their families.
Preceding her in death in addition to her parents and her husband were one brother, Joseph McAndrew and two sisters, Betty Kenneff and Mary Duni.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 26, 2018 at 10:00 am in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church with the Rev. Francis J. Karwacki, Pastor as the celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Ignatius Cemetery, Centralia. A viewing will be held on Sunday evening from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm and on Monday morning from 8:30 am until 9:45 am in the Joseph J. Stutz, Inc. Funeral Home, 40 S. Market St., Mt. Carmel.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Regional High School, 2001 Clinton Ave., Coal Township 17866.
